What is CBT and how can it help?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a talking therapy which uses a range of evidence-based techniques to help youunderstand the links between your thinking, your emotional reactions and how you respond to them. We all experience difficulties in our lives and CBT can help to build understanding
and bring about meaningful change.
CBT enables you to understand how certain situations can trigger negative thought patterns,
difficult emotions, and unhelpful ways of responding. For example, do you find yourself
ruminating on a past event and feeling stuck in familiar negative thoughts, making you feel
hopeless and unmotivated to change. CBT aims to help you to recognise these unhelpful
patterns and what maintains them, by offering you alternative healthier techniques which
allow you to feel more motivated to change.

CBT is a collaborative therapy and we work together to gain a full understanding of
your difficulties, set goals to work towards manageable solutions to your problems,
and learn techniques to find more helpful ways of coping.
CBT is recommended by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) as
being one of the most effective treatments for emotional and psychological problems,
where anxiety or depression is the main factor.
